Abstract design using hand-made paper and various torn paper items, rolled paper tubes, beads and waxed string. Reminded me of fishing boats while I was making it so I called it Hastings, a fishing town on England's southern coast I recently visited.
I look back on a long career of teaching and sharing art, crafts and cultures from around the world with children of all ages, always on the lookout for interesting techniques and materials. I still have many samples and am using them to create my own personal tribal art in the form of papier mache plates, my favorite kitchen-table medium from childhood. These plates are a showcase of collections and techniques, like a museum of my own history, and of course as plates they also evoke eating and nourishment.
